About the company
LCL Data Centers is a leading Belgian data centre operator with five carrier-neutral sites. The digital backbone for countless Belgian organisations, LCL runs 24/7 — with sustainability at the core of its strategy: EcoVadis Platinum (95/100), 100% renewable electricity and the ambition to self-generate 40% of its own consumption by 2030.
Three challenges
1. Energy-intensive process
Data centres are among the most energy-intensive infrastructure of the digital economy. Servers, cooling and connectivity require constant, reliable power 24/7, and AI and cloud workloads are pushing demand even higher.
2. On-site rooftop is not enough
The company's own sites do not offer enough generation potential to hit 40% renewable self-supply by 2030. Through an off-site corporate PPA on the roofs of Belgian farms, LCL taps external rooftop capacity, paired with battery storage to align production and consumption.
3. Cost control and price stability
By choosing a partner that handles installation, operations and optimisation, LCL secures locally generated green power at a stable price in a volatile market — without having to invest itself.

“Our off-site solar park combines photovoltaic panels with battery storage. We produce local green energy, support the Belgian grid and take a concrete step toward 40% own production by 2030. That is only possible with strong partners like CleverNett.”
In the field
Together with CleverNett and energy supplier Elindus, LCL commissioned a 3.4 MW off-site solar park on the roofs of four farms in East and West Flanders — a Belgian first and the largest local corporate PPA in the country. The park generates 3.0 GWh of renewable electricity per year and combines solar with battery storage to support the Belgian grid.
